The drum has been cleaned, halved and beat into flat sheets by hand. The pattern is then drawn onto the metal to be skillfully cut with hammer and chisel into the desired shape. Then the true sculpting of the piece begins. Using a variety of chisels, the lines of definition are carefully applied in all of the right places, certain parts are pounded to round out the body of the piece. When complete, a rust preventive paint is applied and then the painted artwork begins.
